Minister Mendicino announces changes to facilitate online learning for International Students

International students play a major role in contributing to Canada. They not only make advanced contributions in social aspects but also bring a vivid culture to the country.

If we look at the country’s economic development, international students have helped it to climb up the ladder by generating more than $20 billion of economic support.

Keeping this generous increase of the economy in mind, the Canadian minister of immigration, citizenship, and refugees support and favor the students by making changes that are in favor of the students.

However, the pandemic has created many hurdles for international students in terms of learning and other aspects. So what does the Canadian minister has in store for them?

Changes introduced for the International students:

Canada is quite serious when it comes to the safety and benefits of its foreign citizens. The recent problem which is faced by international residents is in the field of education.

However, the Canadian minister of immigration, citizenship, and refugees, has decided to launch certain measures for helping the international students survive the blow of pandemic on their education.

According to the minister, the students who take up an online course with any institute in Canada offering an online program will be supported by various measures taken by the government.

So what changes are these which the minister is talking about? Let us find out!

What Measures Is The Canadian Government Taking For International Students?

According to the government, the measures will provide certainty to the students enrolling in online courses offered by the institutes of Canada about their stay in Canada. It offers a clarification over the students’ entry in Canada once the travel restrictions are put at ease in the country or the students’ home nation.

We can look at these changes being a stepping stone for maintaining the reputation of Canada as one of the top destinations for studies and improve the international student’s program. This can also be a measure to maintain a high number of international students’ entry in the country, which will be a boon for the economic stability of the nation.

These measures direct towards the eligibility of the students to work in Canada once they graduate. It allows the students to work in Canada even if they are following the courses online.

Let us have a quick highlight of the measures taken by the Minister.
      • They are offering a priority to student-grant processing for those students who have completed their application online. This will be beneficial in reducing the time taken for processing the permits.
      • The students can now count the time spent during online courses for getting eligible for post-graduation works in Canada. But this is only for the students who have submitted their student-permit application and have completed at least 50% of their course in Canada.
      • They are implementing a 2 stage temporary process, for those students who want to pursue a distance learning program from Canada. This measure is also for the students who were not able to submit all the documents required for completion of the application form.
Let us give you some more details about this temporary process.

TEMPORARY 2-STAGE PROCESS:

The temporary process will allow the students to continue their online courses by procuring an approval in principle permit and count this time spent on getting the post-graduation work permit. Once the service will be resumed, the students will have to produce the remaining documents for getting an approved study permit and an allowance for traveling to Canada.

This process will be only available for the students who wish to start their online courses of semesters starting in the fall but only if you have submitted the student permit application before 15Th September 2020.

This measure will help the students to continue their studies even if they have not submitted the complete documents.

Students, who procure the approval-in-principle permit and get enrolled in online courses, can still get a final negative result for their full study permit application on the basis of various reasons like security, travel restriction.etc.

Thus, this temporary process shouldn’t be taken as a final result, as the final result is the fully approved study permit which you will be getting once services resume.
